94.9 CHRW Radio Western is a Community radio station in Canada. It is a non-profit and offers opportunities for skill building in broadcasting, journalism, radio and music production, sports broadcasting and more.
CHRW-FM (referred to as Radio Western) is a Canadian radio station broadcasting 99.9 FM in London, Ontario. It is licensed by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission as a community-based campus radio station.
The station broadcasts from the 250 rooms of the Community Center at the University of Western Ontario.
The station is primarily run by volunteers from both the West and Greater London communities, although it is run by a small team of industry-trained staff and is managed by a board of directors.
Radio Western regularly broadcasts live coverage of Western Mustangs sports games during the season and at playoffs, including men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey.
In January 2018, the Western University Student Council held a referendum to determine whether the station was still relevant to student financing.
As a result of this vote, the amount of student tuition funds for three years has been reduced from 12 12 to 50 10.50. In November 2018, the former volunteer released an unpublished recording prior to an interview with Kurt Cobain from 1991.
